Challenge:
Sony wanted to create a unique interactive experience for the Underground Magazine which would take advantage of the unique the PlayStation disk format.
LifeLike proposed an educational and interactive experience
based
around the idea of "how to make a game." The result was the Wormhole,
a three dimensional tunnel game that was built through installments in the
Underground CD. In each issue of the Underground, a new concept of game production
was introduced and displayed. Underground subscribers then sent in feedback
and ideas via e-mail, and these ideas were used in creating the next issue.
By demonstrating these concepts step by step, Sony was able to give subscribers a clear understanding of how a video game is made. They saw the process and were able to play a part in it as well, building a sense of empowerment and community among the Underground subscribers.
