The Wormhole: Game Design Case Study

Challenge:

Sony wanted to create a unique interactive experience for the Underground Magazine which would take advantage of the unique the PlayStation disk format.

Solution:

LifeLike proposed an educational and interactive experience based
around the idea of "how to make a game." The result was the Wormhole, a three dimensional tunnel game that was built through installments in the Underground CD. In each issue of the Underground, a new concept of game production was introduced and displayed. Underground subscribers then sent in feedback and ideas via e-mail, and these ideas were used in creating the next issue.

Benefit:

By demonstrating these concepts step by step, Sony was able to give subscribers a clear understanding of how a video game is made. They saw the process and were able to play a part in it as well, building a sense of empowerment and community among the Underground subscribers.
